2019 COMMUNITY GRANTS

In June 2019, the Foundation presented grants to the following organizations:       CDSA - $5,000 - Newborn Safe Sleep KitsWhile great work has been done to reduce infant mortality in Garfield County, the rate is still higher than the national average. This grant will help fund Newborn Safe Sleep Kits printed in English, Spanish, and Marshallese. These kits will be given to new mothers before they leave the hospital. Loaves and Fishes - $5,000 - Nutritional SupplementsLoaves and Fishes became aware of the fact that both hospitals had noted that the majority of readmissions, for patients with COPD, was tied to a secondary diagnosis of malnutrition. The organization immediately wanted to help. This grant will allow Loaves and Fishes to have nutritional supplements available to those in need. Denny Price Family YMCA - $5,000 - Healthy Weight And Your ChildThis evidence-based program being used in Y’s throughout the United States. The 25-session program engages the child and a parent or guardian so that, together, they can understand how the home environment and other factors influence healthy choices. The program is based on Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do It (MEND) INTEGRIS Foundation - $5,000 - CANServe ProgramThis program is designed to meet the dietary needs of cancer patients during the first week of treatment by providing a free meal, each day, for five days. The meals are perfectly portioned, hot and healthy, and are nutrient appropriate. Rural Health Projects - $10,000 – AHEC Scholars ProgramThe grant will help support osteopathic medical students enrolled in the AHEC Scholars Program. The program helps train, recruit, and retain health professionals to our area through additional curriculum and connections to our community.Additional Community Grants were given in November (to meet the Foundation’s annual distribution requirement) to the following: Oklahoma Blood Institute - $50,000 – Building CampaignThe Northwest Oklahoma Osteopathic Foundation helped kick off the NW Oklahoma Blood Institute’s capital campaign by presenting them with a gift of $50,000. The first phase of the project will feature new construction and provide a covered area for loading and unloading. Phase 2 will remodel existing space.Oklahoma Osteopathic Association - $5,000 – Podcast SeriesThe Oklahoma Osteopathic Association will soon be launching a podcast series. Programs will be a mix of many topics, such as interesting medical stories, physician highlights, legislative updates, etc. The series is designed to engage younger physicians and provide valuable content to all OOA members. The Podcast will launch this Spring. Fun fact: Enid’s very own Lynn Phillips, DO will be the voice of the program.      INTEGRIS Bass Baptist Health Center $10,000 – Baxter Care FundThis program helps patients, that qualify, get the medication and some of the equipment they need. The fund is named after longtime administrator Gene Baxter.In total the Foundation presented more than $95,000 in funding. Grant requests are due March 1st. Reviewed by committee and awarded in June.
