Osteopathic Physician Jonathan Bushman started the new year off with a new approach..... a new approach to medicine.Frustrated by the constraints of paperwork, insurance billing, and pressure of numerous patient visits, Dr. Bushman was looking for a way to better connect with his patients. He found that in a Direct Primary Care approach.In this model of health care delivery, patients pay a monthly membership fee. That’s it, no more co-pays or insurance filing, no more third-party billing, or fee for service payments. Patients can see Dr. Bushman as many times as they need to and they will most likely find that their office visits with Dr.Bushman are longer, with wait times being shorter.“The reason I went into medicine was to truly help people, and this approach, for me, is the best way to do that.” Dr. Bushman said. “The relationships that I’ve built and the time I get to spend with each patient is rewarding.”Patients can still utilize their insurance if referred to specialists, or for diagnostic tests, emergency room visits or major health issues like surgery. This is oftentimes a savings to the patient. The patient can now select a higher deductible, lower cost insurance plan which covers the patients for specialty and emergency care, while routine wellness visits, and non-emergency visits are covered by the membership fee. It also gives patients without insurance access to preventative and routine care, simply by paying the monthly membership fee.Direct Primary Care Practices are relatively new but growing in number.
